PAYOLA FANNING...
|
Dear Triple J;
We often enjoy listening to your radio station. Probably because ever since Hitz FM was given the arse back in 2001, you guys have been the only half decent radio station gracing the airwaves. But that is not bloody saying much now it is? you are all quite cool over at J-HQ.
Anyway after today's horrific excuse for a hottest 100 (NO BLOC PARTY "BANQUET"! NO GOLDFRAPP! NO ANNIE! TOO MUCH BERNARD 'FUCKING' FANNING!), we will never be tuning in again.
All in all, the day was quite shit, we got drunk for basically NOTHING, and this was the last EVER JJJ Hottest 100 party we'll be having.
Good day.
xx IAR.

Show us ya P!NK bits
|
Everyone's favourite hard-arse, truck driving, mucus slagging, sometime-friend-of-lesbians and newlywed P!NK is back.
So her last album ("Try This") didn't do too well, and although it had a few good tracks on it, the stinky ones REALLY stunk, so she probably deserved it.
But we cannot forget that Pink has done some alright to moderately good to fucking brilliant pop songs over the years (and the fiasco that was Lady Marmalade does not count). So after a good run... was "Try This" really the last straw?
We bloody well hope not. Why?
Because, not only are we in love with Pink all over again, but she now also holds the title for artist with the greatest video clip ever in the history of music video (Not really), and we want everyone to love her again as much as we do.
The song, called "Stupid Girls", is bloody amazing too, and will probably chart rather highly on our top 50 - when we can be bothered to write up a new one.
We're guessing you haven't seen the clip... Well never fear, IAR is here...
Devil Pink and Angel Pink come to have chats with a little girl about her future.
Pink devotes an homage to Gwen Stefani!
Pink devotes an homage to Geena Davis!
Pink gets a tan!
Pink shows us her tits - but she has no nipples!
Pink devotes an homage to Lindsay Lohan and her many car accidents!
Pink does a Lady-Di! (Not the dead thing)
Newlywed Pink hopes MTV will pick her and hubby up for a new season of Newlyweds by devoting an homage to Jessica Simpson!
Well really you get the rest.
It's pretty amazing, quite funny, etc, and there are some even funnier bits through the clip. You can download it here or here.
How Glorious.
Some things to discuss on this sunny Wednesday afternoon...
|
After a full month of not updating our MP3 blog due to 'pressing issues' (we completely forgot it existed), we've finally updated the bugger this afternoon.
It's a giant post - about Europop star Lepa Brena - Yugoslavia's answer to Madonna for over 25 years. To make up for the month break, we've chucked up about 20 of her best singles, into the one zip file.
You can visit our MP3 blog and download away...
Also, we mentioned a few days back we had that Annie review for you. We'll give you the IAR review by Friday, but in the meantime, why don't you read our official "place of employment and rather proper etc" review by clicking here. You can also view the photos we took over on this place of the internet - and look out for the picture in which Annie is smiling, standing next to a person in a brown ANNIE t-shirt.. that *may* or *may* not be someone from IAR (be afraid, etc)... You have been warned.

Try Hard to die hard, united on the goal
|
This has really made our day.
Seems the downright amazing Hard-Fi are just as annoyed with the Brit Award folk for the lack of Girls Aloud and Sugababes nominations as we are...
Says Richard Archer: "I'm not really a pop fan but when it's done right it's good. Girls Aloud and Sugababes both do it well so it's a bit of a surprise they aren't in the pop act selection when (James) Blunt and (Katie) Melula are."
Food for thought indeed. Full story here...

The Emperor's New Clothes
|
Popjustice have a brand new look.
It's bloody hot.
Visit them and gawk in awe: www.popjustice.com
Amazing.
To your left is a band called Van She.
They are not only our favourite new band, but they're also yours.
"But wait!" we hear you all cry! "I have not heard of this Van She before, how are they my favourite new band?!"
Never fear, that is why your beloved friends at IAR are here to help.
Van She, a very amazing band that hail from Sydney Australia, played a gig supporting the lovely popstress Annie last week here in Melbourne. And as amazing as the set from Annie was (and we'll be telling you all about that experience - WITH PHOTOS - tomorrow), it has to be said that the boys from Van She were an absolute highlight, and had we not been graced with such Pop royalty as Annie, they would have stolen the night away from everyone else playing.
Take a splash of The Cars, throw in a tiny bit of The Cure, an iota of Daft Punk (when they were good) and mash it together with a bit of electro-rock ala The Bloc Party and Datarock... and you STILL don't have the full mix of how brilliant the boys are.
Songs "Kelly", "Mission" and "Sex City" are rather glorious, but all the tracks on their self-titled debut EP are as equally enjoyable.
"Where can I hear any of Van She's stuff? They sound quite good!" we hear you proclaim.
Well, first of all you can check out the bands MySpace site, and preview - in full - four of the tracks from their E.P. Then, once you've done that you can either log on to the iTunes Australia store and purchase the E.P. from there, or you could always just buy the actual hard copy from the Modular People website. It will literally be the best $10.00 you could spend in 2006, and seeing as we're not even a full month into the year yet and we can say that, it obviously means they're mindblowing, flawless and great, etc etc.
It should probably also be mentioned that they're really quite nice to look at (visit their official website when you can and have a squiz at the pics), and their bass player - Matthew - is quite the fan of Annie.
Bless.
STOP PRESSES!! Now that you are as madly in love with Van She as we are, why dont you VOTE for them in The Jack Awards? Simply click here, and vote for Van She - who are nominated for the best newcomer gong.

R.I.P. Sophie Heathcote
|
One of Australia's finest acting talents has sadly passed away. Sophie Heathcote, although known for her role in Water Rats, did not gain admirable legendary status until she portrayed the character Sam "Bizzerko" Kusurko on the amazing ABC TV show Raw FM. On the 5th of January 2006, Sophie, 33, suffered an aneurysm which was the cause of death, and was believed to have been battling skin cancer as well. Sophie is survived by her husband, a daughter and a 16 month old son. Sophie's portrayal of a lesbian vocalist on Raw FM was nothing short of flawless. In the episode "Raw N Sore", the camera's followed the character in an In Bed With Madonna style fashion, with Sam being filmed as she planned an outside broadcast in which she would star. The episode landed Sophie an AFI award nomination, and the song performed, called "Headlander", under the name Dollmeister, is still, nine years on, one of the most original and fresh electronic dance tracks made in this country. We send our love and condolences to Sophie's family and friends. This is certainly a shocking and tragic loss... we're still really not quite sure what to say. Sophie, you will be missed, may you rest in peace.

They'll make it up to you in the Year 3000
|
Tomorrow marks the one year anniversary since one of the most important pop groups of our time, announced they were calling it a day.
This time last year, Busted were getting ready to tell their fans they were disbanding, and were to no longer be.
Of course, we're not as bitter as we were toward the lovely Charlie Simpson (middle) these days, but, you know, looking back now, it really would have been nice if he didn't ruin pop for everyone. That said, forgive and forget, etc.
We encourage you to pull out your Busted Long Players tomorrow morning/afternoon and remember the grand old times, maybe have a bit of a teary and dance around joyously to "Air Hostess" in your bedroom.
Then, smash a relatives car up with a baseball bat and blame your horrific actions on the heartache and painful memories this day will now forever bring you.
What we would give for them to still be...
What we are doing tonight instead of hosting our radio show
|
Amazing bubblegum-electro-pop goddess ANNIE is playing at Honky Tonks tonight in Melbourne. Imagine our delight when our place of employment asked us to partake in a bit of reviewing for the evening. Hurrah! We'll let you know how it goes, but for those of you thinking about making it down, Annie starts at 1am and will play till 3am. See you at the bar!! xxx IAR.

There's a new man in town, and he's doing the rounds of your email inbox. The phenomenon that was is getting an endless amount of Hoff emails sent to you, although they don't look set to cease any time soon, they will, however, slow down for a bit to pave the way for a much funnier and, dare we say it, spunkier, comical icon in the form of Chuck Norris.
The comedy comes in the form of facts... Did you know that....?
- Chuck Norris' tears cure cancer. But he is so badass, he has never cried. Ever.
- Chuck Norris does not sleep. He waits.
- Chuck Norris is currently suing NBC, claiming Law and Order are trademarked names for his left and right legs.
- Chuck Norris does not have AIDS. But he gives it to people anyway.
- Someone once tried to tell Chuck Norris that roundhouse kicks aren't the best way to kick someone. This has been recorded by historians as the worst mistake anyone has ever made.
- Chuck Norris has counted to infinity. Twice.
- Chuck Norris does not hunt because the word hunting infers
the probability of failure. Chuck Norris goes killing. There's about 200 more of these hilarious 'facts' going around. Of course, we cant send you the emails we've gotten about the man, but we can indeed point you in the direction of THE GREATEST WEBSITE IN THE HISTORY OF PRETTY MUCH ANYTHING:
http://www.chucknorrisfacts.com/
If Paris were to comment, she'd say "That's hot". Then, Chuck Norris would roundhouse kick her swiftly in the head.
Can't stop rockin' to the beat... (*CLAP CLAP*)

The side project has begun folks...

Go over there, have a squiz and tell your friends.
Nicola and a few other birds are coming to town, and we want to make sure their stay is more than fruity.

Australian Biology-watch... Week #1
|
As we reported for you all yesterday, Girls Aloud are making their way down under here to Australia to promote the pants off their new Oz & NZ single "Biology", which was serviced to all radio this week.
Most of our readers will know - and appreciate - just how brilliant and exciting this news is. And to make it all the more amazing, they're releasing arguably their best single to date in the early stages of February.
As of today, we're starting the Australian Biology-watch. We'll keep you updated on what stations are playing the song, whether TV have embraced them, and hopefully, what the girls promotional schedule will be whilst they're visiting us down under.
NOW... There's a way you (yes, YOU!) can help make "Biology" quite the hit single.
"But the single isn't out yet, how on earth am I going to do that?" we hear you cry.
Easy. You just need to exercise your right as an Australian to request/vote for new music on your local/more desired radio station.

It's as simple as that. We really want the Girls to do well in Australia, especially since we've been tooting off about how they've never been all that well received here purely because they hadn't come down to promote.
Well now they ARE coming down to promote, so there's no excuses after this if they fail.
IF YOU CARE ABOUT POP MUSIC AND THE WAY IT IS TREATED IN AUSTRALIA THEN FOR CHRISTS SAKE, PULL YOUR FINGER OUT OF YOUR ARSE AND LET'S ALL DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT, TOGETHER, ETC ETC.
Good luck girls -

Hello. Are you like us, an Australian Girls Aloud fan? Go here: www.girlsaloud.co.uk Then, click on the news link about their plans for 2006. Bring February the FUCK ON.
Kate DeAlphabet's album "A place I've never been" (surely an ode to the number 1 spot on the albums charts) has slipped down to number #26 in recent weeks, after only 4 weeks in the charts. The biggest surprise is probably the fact that dear old Kate's single is - somehow - still holding itself in the top 10 singles chart (and haven't you all bought your copy of "Wasabi" by now? Why is it STILL number #1?!?!!!)... Surely the album sales are going to be raising some eyebrows down at Sony/BMG... Including the sister/girlfriend brows of newly signed artist Emily Williams, no doubt. Turns out, a bunch of Insane Girls online posse started up a petition of sorts demanding that the "pop lover" be given a recording contract. So, If we were to, say, start a petition in honor of getting Laura Gissara to sing the inspirational theme song to send off our Socceroos to the World Cup this year, would Football Australia listen? Laura has as much - if not more - talent than Emily "Look at those shoes!" Williams, and for christs sake - SHE SANG CHER'S "DOVE LA MORE" AT HER GIG IN GEELONG!!!! This is surely enough to cement the Giss as one of the nations most underrated legends. So while we try and work on this petition (and we're getting those bloody photos done this week too, sorry!), we'd also like to - just quietly - admit that the next Kate DeAlphabet single is pretty brilliant. How is this possible, we hear you shriek! Well, it's been written by the Veronicas, and by the sounds of it, we're fairly certain they (Kate's "people") didn't fiddle around with it too much because it's fairly Clarkson-Ronica-ish. But... will it be enough?

Because we're still broken...
|
...you'll have to excuse the lack of updates over the last few days. While we've been trying to locate the pieces of our brain we lost somewhere between the docklands and Commercial Road in Prahran, our other legendary weblogfolk have been going quite "hard at it", providing everyone with glee in written form. - Thank FUCK that Fop are back from their holidays. Because who else would have notified us of the brilliance that is Pete Burns starring in the UK's Celebrity Big Brother (LOOK AT THAT!!)
- Ausculture are looking for the lost Cartwright-Hewitt baby. Has anyone questioned Gary Glitter on the disappearance?
- The CFB Lay-deees have begun a project entitled The 1001 Greatest Pop Songs, which, crazily, will include social commentary from us over the next week. Luckily, it seems they've asked the amazing Edward O to join them in counteracting the garbage we'll be posting on there, with something that actually sounds half decent. Naturally, Dannii Minogue has already been placed at Number #1.
- Speaking of Edward O, he's compiled the top 150 tracks of 2005 over on his brand new blog. However, he's actually put some effort into each track and its accompanying commentary, unlike us who simply listed the songs in order. There may or may not be some mp3's over there too of some or all of the said songs. Amazing.
- PopGoesCanberra seem to have found themselves in Tasmania. Oh dear...
- Scott, To Be Certain has finally updated, and made up for the two month hiatus in fine form. Thank goodness etc.
- Club Contact are still updating their fabulous blog regularly, unlike our mp3 blog which will return next week (we kind of forgot we even began it... sorry...)
- After some downtime, Poptext is back - minus some sound files but we'd like to think their words are enough of a gift to all anyways.
See! This all perfectly makes up for our laziness, doesn't it?

What have we learnt after the New Year period?
|
Our experience seeing in the New Year certainly was nothing short of interesting and eventful, to say the very least.
New Years Day saw us heading off to the Atlantic Southwharf & Sheds down at the Melbourne Docklands for "(not so much) Sunshine People" to conduct some "serious" and "important" media business regarding the event.
Within the first hour, we had managed to learn some valuable life lessons, and within the first three, we'd decided that something needed to be done about raving as a whole. Here are some of the slightly hazy things we managed to learn over the New Year period, after our frightening experience at Sunshine People, then at a plush afterparty, followed by our somewhat memorable drive home...
- Placing your mobile phone on top of the toilet is only a good idea if you plan on remembering to take it out with you again.
- There are still some decent human beings in the world who hand lost phones over to security instead of keeping them.
- Madison Avenue's "Don't Call Me Baby" sounds as good now as it did all those years ago.
- Raving should seriously be outlawed.
- Phat Pants are actually getting more offensive as time goes by.
- Kernkraft 400 is a brilliant man: he played Divine's "Native Love".
- Blackstrobe and Richie Hawtin are gods.
- Having your VIP/Media Pass confiscated off you by security for not believing it was actually yours, is one bonafide way of ensuring the final published review of the party which you write up is going to make the whole event look like it were run by Neo Nazi's.
- Madonna's "Confessions On A Dancefloor" somehow manages to sound EVEN BETTER after consuming a cocktail of drugs.
- Pretending to be Madonna in the "Hung Up" clip, with it blaring from the car stereo whilst driving down a highway, going about 100km per hour can result in possible mayhem on the roads.
- Hearing "My Humps" on hallucinogenics is about 600 times more hilarious than it is hearing it straight.
So as you can imagine, we're feeling pretty damn sorry for ourselves at the moment. Which can only mean that somewhere in between complaining and screaming at security guards, we had a bit of fun.
We certainly hope you had fun too, whatever it is you got up to.
x IAR.
