Whole Lotta History

The lovely folk who look after the Official Girls Aloud website have updated their news section with some intel as to what we'll be expecting next from our favourite ladies of pop over the next month.

The good news is we'll be getting a new single, geniusly titled "Something Kinda Oooh" (!!!!!!!!!!), which is released on the 23rd of October over in the UK. Even more brilliant news is that this years Chemistry Tour will be made available on DVD (again, in the UK) on the 30th of October. Bravo!

However, also on the 30th of October, Girls Aloud will be releasing a new album (YAY!!) called "The Sound Of Girls Aloud: The Greatest Hits" (BOO!). Whilst there is no denying this is one of the most exquisite names for a Greatest Hits compilation ever, surely there is a bit of a general upset that we're not getting a fourth studio album instead. Three albums and a greatest hits? Ridiculous.

On the plus side though, we'll be getting a bunch of new songs as well - anywhere between 3 and 5 - shoved onto the CD, so it's not exactly terrible news.

But still...

Is this like Dannii M thing where the new tracks are stolen from a proper CD and placed on the hits record? It does not bode well. :(

It would not surprise me at all. I remember reading an article where Cheryl had said they'd recorded about 6 or 7 great songs, and they were hoping to persuade the record company into a studio album rather than a hits collection.

    Extremely annoying.

Do you think we'll ever get to hear "Singapore"?

Ooh, what's "Singapore"! Tell me more!

Very annoying that there's no full album coming. Even the Sugababes had 4 albums first.

"Singapore" is a track *believed* to have been played in the background of "Girls Aloud: Home Truths", a doco from earlier last year. The girls were in the studio listening to songs from their then upcoming album (which would later be titled "Chemistry") and one of the songs being spoken of on the forums was a track called "Singapore".

Eventually people just assumed it didn't exist, but Mr. PopJustice confirmed its existance about a month back on the PJ Forums.

I always thought Singapore was just an urban legend. It would be great if the Aloud released an album of b-sides and rarities. It would be the best album of the century...anyway, I must dash. I am (thanks to Adem and his supreme knowledge of pop) listening to Rogue Traders!
