Rock Eisteddfod: "Threatened" by Disney Movie
|
Let's talk about how brilliant it is that the High School Musical Soundtrack, in its second week on the Australian Albums Chart, is still sitting pretty in the Top 10. In fact, it looks like we might even see it back in the top 5 next week.
Let's talk about how brilliant it is that the "Breakin' Free" single from High School Musical, in its second week on the Australian Singles Chart, is not only still in the top 20, but has actually gone up from 17 to 13.
Let's not talk about how ropey "Breakin' Free" is though, and how it would have been much better if they'd released the simply BRILLIANT "Get'cha Head In The Game" (which was the second single in the US), which incorporates basketball court floor noises THAT OBVIOUSLY INDICATE TO ME THAT THIS IS ONE OF THE GREATEST POP SONGS OF THE LAST 10 YEARS. Basketball floor noises. And the number is set at the Basketball court. AND THERE ARE BASKETBALL NOISES.
And come on, I mean seriously, is there really anything better in the world than a stonking good musical? There most certainly is, but, let us just, for today, pretend that no, there isn't anything better in the world than a good musical. Which is why I'm sure you'll all be pleased to know that the original cast of High School Musical have apparently already begun filming a sequel. Thank heavens for that.
Also, some good news for those of you who may have, like me, had several "impure" dreams involving a yound David Cassidy Zac Efron (who played the lead of Troy in the musical). He's 19 this year. Which means that whatever it was I dreamt happened between us those three nights in a row, it was all totally legal. Which means that getting slightly excited over this picture is totally okay.

Awesome.

It upsets me that the Australian public has such fickle taste when it comes to cheesy music. You see the Young Divas and High School Musical are super cheesy. But there not THAT good are they, really? There is loads of BETTER cheesy music from Sweden that should be doing better here, but isn't. It's all just very disappointing. Sorry to be negative.

Well yes, you can look at it that way, but you can also look at it as being a step up for pop in this usually urban-based country. I definitely see where you're coming from, but the general Australian listening ear is not always receptive to what you and I would classify as great music. Over the last 12 months we've had ace singles from Girls Aloud, September, Oaky feat. Britany Murphy and a stack of others, and they have failed to ignite the charts, much to my horror/disgust/etc.
On that note, I honestly DO think High School Musical IS that good (I've had the soundtrack for 2 weeks now and it still hasn't left my car stereo), as is the Young Divas cover, no matter who's singing it, it's still a bloody brilliant pop number (one of my faves this year to be honest) and good luck to them with the second single "Right About Now". The Only 2 covers this year that have REALLY gotten my attention.
But I do see what you mean. No need to apologise for being negative, I completely understand.
